'Tips should go to service staff' - Business Secretary

Restaurants could be prevented from adding service charges to the bill under new proposals being considered by the government.

Ministers want to ensure that customers know tipping is optional, that the money goes to service staff and that the whole process is more transparent.

It follows major criticism of some restaurant chains for failing to pass on tips to their waiters.
