Doubts raised over government's apprenticeship target

One of Britain's leading businessmen has expressed concerns about the government's scheme to provide more apprenticeship places.

A tax is being imposed on firms to pay for three million by 2020.

Minister of State for Skills and Equalities Nick Boles said: "We want to give all young people a chance to make the most of their talents and create a better life for themselves."

However Steve Holliday from National Grid is worried the move will not actually address Britain's skills shortage.

John Moylan reports.
