One in five 'don't recognise' debt problem

Almost nine million adults in the UK are living with serious debt, according to a report.

Figures out today from the Money Advice Service also showed that of those adults, only 1.5m are seeking debt advice.

Hull, Nottingham, Manchester, Knowsley and Liverpool were the worst affected areas - with 40% of local residents in debt.

Chris May, debt advice programme manager at the Money Advice Service told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "A lot of people just don't feel they can talk to their creditors about their situation."
