'We need a better balance between top and bottom'

The pay of FTSE 100 directors has leapt by 14% to an average of £3.3m, says the pay research company, Incomes Data Services.

It is due to an increase in share-based long term incentive payments as bonuses fell 8.8%.

Luke Hildyard from the High Pay Centre, which campaigns for a fairer spread of earnings, told BBC Breakfast the figures highlighted a growing gap in wealth.
