Boosting exports by using social media

Small companies need guidance and support to help break into foreign markets, a report has found.

According to The Reform Think Tank, the UK export market needs to grow by 9% a year to meet Government targets - and if successful could develop a bigger export market than Germany.

One company that has already successfully tackled the export market is hairbrush maker Tangle Teezer - which now sells to over 60 countries worldwide despite failing to get an investment from Dragons Den.

Gemma Clarke, Chief Global Officer at Tangle Teezer, told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "If we wish to enter into a new country... we actually send our stuff out to bloggers and they start talking about it in the local market and that generates a lot of interest."
