Is the auto-enrolment pension scheme working?

It has been a year since the government launched auto-enrolment - which puts employees into their company's pension scheme unless they decide to opt out.

The initiative aims to get more people into pension plans and it seems to be working, with 1.6 million people placed in workplace pensions so far.

Charlotte Jackson, head of information at the Pensions Advisory Service, told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "Nobody envisaged that the levels of opt out would be as low as they are."

"What we've been particularly impressed about... is the number of young people who've actually decided to stay in. The under 30s have really led the way."
