Rio Tinto gets green light for Mongolian copper exports

The Mongolian government has given the go-ahead for mining giant Rio Tinto to start exporting copper from the country's vast Oyu Tolgoi mine.

Exports from the mine have been delayed twice since the planned start date of 14 June.

According to the Mongolian government, this was due to disagreements with Rio Tinto on how revenues earned from the country's biggest copper mine should be managed.

David Paterson of Emergent Advisory, a consulting firm based in Melbourne, told the Asia Business Report both parties were likely to benefit from the start of the shipments.
