Heathrow BA plane had 'engine panels unlatched'

A forced emergency landing by a British Airways plane at Heathrow last week was caused by doors on both engines being left unlatched during maintenance.

The panels, called fan cowls, detached as the aircraft left the runway.

The plane was forced to turn back as smoke streamed from one of its engines.
