The Co-op has issued a warning on shale gas production

The Co-operative says the government will have to renege its climate change commitments if it gives the go-ahead to extensive shale gas production in the UK.

A report by the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, that The Co-op has funded, suggests that the introduction of a new fossil fuel resource would 'delay the introduction of renewable energy alternatives'.

Paul Monaghan, Head of Social Goals at the company, relayed his concerns to Radio 5 live Wake Up To Money.
