Is Palestine ready for independence?

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has formally submitted a request to join the United Nations as a full member state, a move strongly opposed by Israel and its close ally, the United States.

It is a bold political move for an economy so heavily dependent on aid.

Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza receive more foreign aid per head of population than any other group of people in the world.

So is it capable of becoming an independent nation?
