Bombardier confronts government over German contract
The chairman of Bombardier UK has said the firm is "struggling to understand" the government's decision to make Germany's Siemens the preferred bidder for a £1.4bn Thameslink train contract.
Colin Walton told the Transport Select Committee the government used very narrow criteria in its selection.
Mr Walton said the decision to make Siemens the preferred bidder was not based solely on the best product, but on the finances behind the two rival offers to build, finance and maintain new train carriages for the Thameslink route.
He said: "Finances played an extremely important part of this deal as opposed to actually choosing the best train first."
