Senate to ask if foreclosures are best option for US?

Europe's debt problems are the latest manifestation of the crisis sparked by the United States' mortgage market and the problems there continue to unravel.

The US Senate holds hearings today to investigate claims of illegal home repossessions.

At issue is whether the banks have done anything wrong and if foreclosure really is the best option.
