Guilty verdict for 'rogue trader'

A court in Paris has sentenced a financial trader, Jerome Kerviel, to three years in jail for unauthorised deals that cost the French bank Societe Generale 5bn euros ($7bn; £4bn).

He was found guilty of breach of trust, forgery and entering false data into computers. The judge said there was no evidence that the bank's managers had been aware of his activities. Mr Kerviel will now appeal.
