US unemployment figures drop to 9.4%

The US unemployment rate fell to 9.4% in December which was the largest one-month drop since 1998.

The Obama administration hailed it as a move in the right direction.

However part of the reason for the drop was not just because more people found jobs, but also because 260,000 had given up looking.
