Call for transparency in appointment of new IMF head

Help

The head of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn has resigned. Mr Strauss-Kahn is currently in prison in New York, facing allegations of attempted rape.

His resignation has prompted debate over a successor. The calls for a non-European to get the job, in order to reflect the growing power of countries such as China and India, have been getting louder.

However, the job has traditionally been given to someone from Europe. Professor Charles Adams is a former senior deputy director at the IMF, now at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.
