Uniform-maker Alexandra Plc in administration

A company in South Gloucestershire which makes uniforms for workplaces has gone into administration.

Alexandra Plc, based in Thornbury, employs 484 people in areas including Thornbury, Aztec West, Swindon, Langley, Edinburgh and Uddingston.

It has now emerged the company failed to have sufficient funds to continue to trade.

A spokesman from the joint administrators said they were seeking to sell the business.

'In discussions'

The firm supplies workwear and uniforms to businesses including hospitality, health care, industrial and retail companies.

The spokesman from the administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP said they were "in discussions with a number of interested parties", which were expected to take some time.

The company, which started as a shop in Bristol in 1854, will continue to trade in the meantime, he added.

He said the company's subsidiaries were not subject to insolvency procedures, but their affairs were being reviewed.

The subsidiaries employ the equivalent of 174 full-time staff in Morocco, seven in the UK, eight in Ireland and eight in Holland.
