Suspected explosives found at Swadlincote house

Police investigating a domestic disturbance have uncovered suspected explosives at a Derbyshire home.

The discovery was made on Friday after the arrest of a 33-year-old man on suspicion of assault at a property in Chestnut Avenue in Midway, Swadlincote.

An Army bomb squad was called when officers later found a box containing the material at a neighbouring house.

The arrested man has since being questioned on suspicion of possessing explosives and released on police bail.

Derbyshire Constabulary has not revealed the nature of the material, which has been sent away for tests.

Det Insp Tim Cadman said: "On the face of it, what has been recovered is a small quantity of suspected explosive material and once tests have been completed we will question the man further.

"We would like to reassure the people living in the area that this incident is not connected to any particular groups and this is not a terrorism-related investigation."
