Disruption warning during Sheffield gas mains upgrade

People are being warned of disruption as work starts on a £500,000 project to upgrade a Sheffield gas mains network.

National Grid will replace 3.5km (2.1 miles) of old metal gas mains in Fulwood Road and Glossop Road with plastic piping.

From Monday, the Glossop Road and Fulwood Road junction will be closed for six weeks and traffic will be one way in Fulwood Road.

National Grid said efforts had been taken to minimise disruption.

The project is expected to last 11 weeks.

Steve Bloomer, project manager, said: "We have worked very closely with the local authority to agree the traffic management programme.

"We are aiming to complete most of the works during the summer school holidays whilst traffic flows are reduced, to minimise disruption, but we will need road closures for safety reasons."
