Extra police patrols after Chorlton bar robberies

Extra police patrols are being carried out in a south Manchester suburb after a spate of robberies in the area.

Staff at The Bar on Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, were confronted by a man with an iron bar in the latest incident on Tuesday, police said.

He threatened workers before escaping with a quantity of cash.

Greater Manchester Police said they understood business concerns and were increasing their presence in the area to reassure the public.

Reassurance measure

Sgt Alan Dean, of the Chorlton Neighbourhood policing team, said: "We are investigating a number of robberies in the area and are aware they will be causing some concern in the business community.

"I want to reassure people officers are looking into these robberies and we are placing high visibility patrols into the area to act as a reassuring presence.

"We would also ask members of the business community to keep on top of their own security and to remain vigilant."

Police said bar staff were left "terrified" by the latest robbery and are appealing for witnesses.

The man is described as Asian, about 6ft (1.8m) tall, and of heavy build. He was wearing a grey hooded jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms.
