Cyclist airlifted from Chichester Harbour mud

A man had to be rescued from mudflats after he took a shortcut on his mountain bike through a Sussex waterway.

The cyclist called the emergency services after he became stuck waist-deep in mud in East Head, Chichester Harbour, West Sussex on Saturday.

The coastguard helicopter was scrambled and the man was airlifted to safety at about 1630 BST.

A spokesman for Solent Coastguard said the man was not hurt in the incident.
