Hopes that a Much Wenlock care home can be saved

Town councillors are hopeful a Shropshire care home can be saved from closure.

The Extra Care Charitable Trust, which runs the The Lady Forester Community Nursing Home, in Much Wenlock, has said it is consulting over closing the home.

Councillor David Turner said he would like more time for the consultation so more people interested in taking over could come forward.

The consultation will end on 31 July.

The trust also runs the Forester's Court Sheltered Housing Scheme in the town.

A trust spokesman said the decision to hold the review was because it had been operating at a loss of more than £336,000 and the nursing home requires £2m of repairs.

After a meeting held in Much Wenlock on Friday Mr Turner said Extra Care had agreed that if there was a serious proposal on the table it would halt closure plans in order to consult on the deal.
