Children in Northampton to learn bicycle safety

Children in Northamptonshire are to learn how to cycle safely after a £10,000 grant was awarded for courses.

The funding is from the Youth Sport Trust to deliver Bikeability training to 252 young people in Northampton.

It will be delivered by the Northampton School Sports Partnership and Northampton Borough Council.

Sports development officers will go to primary schools as well as offer four-day courses to young people for £15 over the summer holidays.

Extended Services, which provides a range of services outside of school hours, has also supported the project with £1,000.

Paul Varnsverry, Northampton Borough Council's cabinet member responsible for sports development, said: "Making sure young people have the correct skills and confidence to ride safely on roads is essential.

"I'm delighted we are now able to offer this new training scheme to schools and children in Northampton."
