A Shropshire council website 'can be altered'

A council website has been temporarily suspended after it was noticed meeting minutes could be amended by people reading the documents at home.

Market Drayton town councillor Mark Whittle said people could access the documents, amend details and print them out for their own purposes.

The original council document would remain unaltered.

Councillors in Market Drayton are meeting to discuss the situation next week.

The documents affected are word documents.

Mr Whittle said it could mean the website is open to fraud. He said people could amend details of a grant they had been awarded and then show the details to a bank or amend details of a planning application and show them to a builder.

Market Drayton town clerk Edward Davies said the website would be suspended until a decision could be made about the best way forward.
