A 30-year-old man who was arrested at a flat in Bristol under the Prevention of Terrorism Act is now being questioned on suspicion of a bomb hoax.

Armed officers raided a property in George's Square just before 0700 BST on Wednesday and searched the premises.

The man was being questioned by anti-terrorism officers at Paddington Green police station in London.

Scotland Yard said he was de-arrested under the Terrorism Act and rearrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax.

Police said the raid followed information received from outside of the area.

Det Supt Nigel Rock, of Avon and Somerset Police, said the man was not from Bristol and was believed to have been in the city for no more than two or three weeks.

The man remains in custody.

Scotland Yard added that search warrants had been executed at two addresses in Bristol and both were now complete.
