Work set to start on Cambridge station transport links

Work to improve public transport and safety for cyclists around Cambridge railway station and Hills Road Bridge is due to start in a week.

The scheme is designed to improve public transport and provide a safe new route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to and from the station.

It includes a lane for buses from the bottom of Hills Road Bridge to the station.

Running alongside the new lane will be a new cycle way.

The work is expected to be completed by February 2011, with the majority of work on Hills Road Bridge due to be finished by Christmas.

Councillor Roy Pegram, cabinet member for strategic planning, said: "It is part of our vision of making sure transport is linked and provides safer and greater choice for our existing and new communities.

"This investment is part of an exciting transformation of the area close to Cambridge station, which is a critical gateway to the city, county and wider region."
