Essex road shut when lorry hits cyclist

A road in Essex was shut for about five hours while police investigated a collision.

A cyclist, who police believe is aged between 65 and 70 years old, was on the A133 close to Elmstead Market, near Colchester on Tuesday afternoon.

He was struck by a red Mercedes flat bed lorry and is in a serious condition in hospital.

The 35-year-old lorry driver from Harwich was arrested at the scene and later released on police bail.

The road has since reopened.
