A 19-year-old man has died from his injuries after the car he was driving crashed near Arbroath.

Philip McDougall, from the town's Bank Street, was at the wheel of a green Volkswagen Golf, which overturned on the Arbroath to Lunan road at Kinaldie at 1530 BST on Tuesday.

He died later in Dundee's Ninewells Hospital.

His 27-year-old male passenger is in a stable condition in the hospital. He is also from Arbroath.

Tayside Police appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist with inquiries to contact them.

In particular, they are keen to speak to anyone who saw the green Golf being driven in the Seaton Road and Mayfield areas of Arbroath shortly before 1530 BST.

The force also said they wanted to hear from witnesses who may have had their attention drawn to any other vehicles in the area.
