A nine-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after falling 40ft (12m) down an embankment while on a day out at a castle in Fife with her family.

The girl was visiting Ravenscraig Castle in Kirkcaldy when she fell and suffered broken leg.

Paramedics attended the scene shortly after 1410 BST and called in a helicopter, which took her to hospital in Edinburgh.

The ambulance service said she was "lucky" to have escaped serious injury.

Fife Constabulary said the girl, who has not been named, was assessed by paramedics and airlifted from the scene after she was found to have a serious leg fracture.
