Men held after armed police surround flats in Liverpool

Armed police have arrested two men after people reported hearing gunshots near a block of flats in Liverpool.

Officers were called to Breck Road, Anfield, at about 1900 BST and found a window at a car dealership had been shot at and damaged. No-one was hurt.

Witnesses reported seeing a group of men leaving a Volkswagen Passat and entering the nearby block of flats, which police then sealed off.

Merseyside Police said two men, aged 32 and 26, were arrested at the scene.

Breck Road and several roads nearby were closed and some residents were evacuated from the block of flats while police made contact with the men inside.

The Volkswagen was cordoned off for forensic examinations.

Lyndsey Mason, 32, who lives close to the building, said: "Police arrived and they smashed down the front door of the flats.

"I didn't leave my house at first because I thought it was raids and I didn't want to get involved. But even more police came and then they started putting barriers and tape across the whole street."
