A man has pleaded guilty to murdering his 94-year-old neighbour in Hertfordshire.

William Humphrey died from multiple stab wounds at his home in Brook Road, Borehamwood, on 2 February.

Marcio Reis De Sa Barros, 30, who lived in a maisonette above the victim, admitted murder when he appeared at St Albans Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing on Thursday.

Barros had earlier denied the charge but changed his plea when he appeared before the court on Monday.

Barros also pleaded guilty to robbing Mr Humphrey of a television, camera and cash between 1 February and 3 February this year.

At an earlier hearing, Barros had denied eight charges of robbing other victims.

Prosecutor John Price told Judge Stephen Gullick that it was not in the public interest for the prosecution to pursue the charges.
