Couple on holiday in Dorset attacked by youths

A couple on holiday in Dorset have been attacked and injured by a gang of four youths.

The 46-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were assaulted outside the Portland Spice Indian restaurant in Easton Square, Portland, in the early hours.

The Dorset Police helicopter was scrambled to search for the gang along with officers on the ground, but they fled the scene.

The couple, from Wiltshire, were taken to hospital.

The man suffered injuries to his head and face while the woman's hand was hurt. She was later released.

School prom

Police are appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them.

Det Ch Insp Fiona Grant said: "There would have been a lot of young people in the area around the time of the assault because a Royal Manor school prom event had taken place on Portland on the Friday evening.

"Someone somewhere - perhaps several people - knows, or suspects they know, who was responsible for this serious assault on this couple.

"I would ask those people to examine their conscience, to do the right thing."

All the youths are described as being in their mid to late teens, while three were described as white.

Some wore hooded tops while others wore baseball caps.
