A 16-year-old boy is in a critical condition after his scooter collided with a van that had pulled over to let an ambulance pass in north Manchester.

The paramedics, who were on the way to another emergency call, stopped to help the teenager who had suffered serious head, neck and leg injuries.

He had collided with the van in Oldham Road by Hulme Hall Lane on Friday.

Another ambulance was sent to the original call-out, the ambulance service said.

The young victim is currently being treated in North Manchester General Hospital. No-one else was hurt and police have appealed for witnesses.
