Woman first in Cumbria to face mephedrone charge

A Workington woman has become the first person in Cumbria to be charged with a mephedrone drug offence since it was made illegal in April, police said.

A 40-year-old woman from the town has been charged with possessing the drug, also known as Miaow Miaow, with intent to supply.

The woman was initially arrested on 20 April following a police search at a property in Park End Road.

She is due to appear at West Allerdale Magistrates' Court on 16 July.
