Appeal over Derby house evacuation fire

A garage fire which forced the evacuation of a Derby house is being treated as suspicious by police.

A police officer spotted smoke coming from a garage on Portland Street on the evening of 28 June and he alerted people in a nearby house to the danger.

Witnesses said two Asian men in hooded tops and jeans were seen running from the area.

Police said they were keen to speak to a man, described as a middle-aged Asian, who spoke to a fire officer.

One of the men seen running away was described as about 6ft (1.83m) tall and about 20 years old.
