Public sector salary details 'may invade privacy'

The Chief Minister has responded to calls from a Jersey politician for the salaries of public sector worker who earn more than £60,000 to be published.

Senator Terry Le Sueur, on behalf of the States Employment Board, said this could undermine privacy.

Last month the salaries of those who earned more than £70,000 was revealed by the States.

Deputy Mike Higgins said he wanted the States to go further and be more transparent about pay.

The States Employment Board said while it would not name those earning more than £60,000 it would publish the number of people who earn more than that amount in bands of £5,000.

Figures released in June, showed more than 550 public sector employees in Jersey earned more than £70,000 in 2009.
