Lorry driver hurt when vehicle overturns in Arundel

A lorry driver was seriously injured when his 25-tonne vehicle, which was carrying cars for scrap, overturned.

The accident happened on a bend on the eastbound A27 near Arundel at 0615 BST.

Sussex Police said the driver, a Hampshire man in his 50s, was cut free by firefighters and taken to Worthing Hospital with serious injuries.

The A27 and A284 were closed for about eight hours but have since reopened. Police said there was major traffic congestion throughout the area.
