Torbay residents warned of Indian call centre tax scam

Residents in Torbay are being warned about a council tax scam run from an Indian call centre.

Torbay Council have learned that some residents have received calls from the centre in India, advising them that they are due for a tax rebate.

The residents are then asked to provide their bank account details.

Louisa Aiton from Torbay Council said: "It is disgraceful that anyone should be tricked. If the offer seems too good to be true, then it probably is."

She added: "If residents receive any unsolicited phone calls or mailings they can contact Consumer Direct South West."
