Lorry spills industrial solvent on Northampton road

A road is expected to reopen in Northampton later after a lorry carrying drums of an industrial solvent spilled some of its load.

Firefighters in chemical protection suits and a decontamination team were called to Ross Road at 0650 BST.

They have decanted the leaked trichloroethylene into drums and used absorbent material to soak up what was left of the liquid.

Three people were seen by paramedics as a precaution, the fire service said.

It was believed they may have breathed in fumes from the solvent. They have been released from the care of the ambulance service.

The lorry was carrying 10 drums which each contained 5.5 gallons (25 litres).
