A street alcohol ban at the Wigton parade is a success

A street alcohol ban introduced at a Cumbria carnival has been hailed a success.

During the annual Wigton Parade at the weekend, Cumbria Police barred visitors from drinking alcohol near the floats in a bid to curb trouble.

Previously there have been arrests at the family event because of drunken behaviour.

But this year Cumbria Police said the ban helped prevent disorder and there were no arrests at the event.
