Cambridgeshire Police wrongly identify dead man's body

Police in Cambridgeshire have apologised to a family after wrongly identifying a dead body as their missing relative.

Reginald Howse, 83, from Ramsey, went missing from his home in May.

On Saturday afternoon officers announced remains found by a pub in Whittlesey were those of Mr Howse.

But less than three hours later police said they had made a mistake and the body was instead believed to be a 73-year-old man missing from Whittlesey.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said checks were being made in an attempt to confirm the dead man's identity.
