'Opportunist' rapist attacks woman in Bristol

A woman was dragged on to wasteland and raped in what police describe as a "terrifying" and "opportunist attack".

The 34-year-old victim was walking home through Bishopsworth, Bristol, after a night out shortly before 0130 BST on Saturday morning.

A stranger began talking to her before forcing her on to wasteland at the northern end of Hareclive Road.

"This was a particularly nasty attack and we want to hear from anyone who can help us," said Det Ch Insp Alex Game.

'Terrifying attack'

He added: "The location would suggest that this was an opportunist attack, and that it is likely that the person responsible is a local man.

"I believe local people hold the key to helping us identify the person who subjected this woman to a terrifying attack."

The suspect is described as a 5ft 10in (1.78m) white man of medium build, aged between 30 and 35.

He had short brown or black hair which was flat on top and wearing a black tracksuit top with two white stripes the sleeves.
