Royal Marine 'bully' claim at RM Condor investigated

Police are investigating claims that a Royal Marine was bullied and abused at a base in Scotland.

The 20-year-old man from 45 Commando said he was beaten and forced to carry out degrading acts at RM Condor, near Arbroath in East Angus.

A Tayside Police spokesman said the man made a formal complaint to officers at Arbroath police station last week.

The matter has been passed to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) police.

The Tayside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 20-year-old man attended at Arbroath Police Station at about 9.20pm on Wednesday, 23 June, and made a complaint, which was subsequently referred to the MoD."

Lt Col Oliver Lee, 45 Commando Royal Marines commanding officer, said: "I am aware that a marine from 45 Commando made a complaint to Tayside Police last week.

"The alleged incident is now under investigation by the MoD police, and together we are determined to get to the bottom of it.

"I have an absolute zero tolerance policy to indiscipline or unacceptable behaviour in 45 Commando."

A spokesman for the MoD police confirmed that any charges following from the investigation would be heard in a civilian criminal court.
