Lincolnshire Police praise World Cup football fans

Lincolnshire Police has praised the behaviour of football fans following England's exit from the World Cup.

The force said the tournament has passed so far without any incidents of public disorder in the county.

Lincolnshire Police said officers had prepared thoroughly for the policing of the World Cup and would continue until the end of the event.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Davies said fans have "acted extremely responsible".

"We did not anticipate trouble or disturbance from fans, and I'm pleased to report that they have not let us down", Mr Davies said.

"Despite fans being disappointed at the team's exit, this did not develop into disorder or hostility.

"We have every confidence that the remainder of the World Cup will pass without incident and as peacefully as it has so far, to the credit of all the fans."
