Children's centre in Peterborough rated 'outstanding'

A children's centre in Peterborough has been rated "outstanding" in a watchdog's annual review.

Peterborough City Council's Orton Children's Centre, which provides support for families, was praised by the city's Children's Trust.

It offers easier access to health services and help with finding jobs and training.

A survey found 73% of parents were very satisfied with the quality of services offered.

'Very popular'

The evaluation process covers how healthy children are, how well they enjoy and achieve, and how parents benefit from adult courses.

Orton Children's Centre was graded outstanding in every area for the 2009/2010 year.

Sheila Scott, cabinet member for children's services, said: "More than 1,200 families in the Ortons used a children's centre service last year, ranging from baby massage, stay and play groups, the centre's family cafe, parenting support and health services.

"Orton Children's Centre is a very popular facility and this latest result shows it is providing children and their families with an outstanding service."
