Metropolitan Police 'sorry' over rape case errors

Three Metropolitan Police officers face misconduct proceedings over errors made in an inquiry into a serial sex attacker, Cdr Maxine de Brunner has confirmed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission began an investigation after police errors were revealed during Kirk Reid's trial last year.

He was identified as a potential suspect in 2004 but his DNA was not taken and he was not charged.

Reid was eventually convicted of 28 sexual assaults in 2009, and jailed for life.
