Thailand boat crash woman's family fly out

The parents of a girl from Bath who fractured her back in a speedboat crash in the Gulf of Thailand are on their way to be with her.

Ellie Hocken, 19, was one of 40 passengers injured when two speedboats carrying tourists overturned a few kilometres out to sea.

The boats were ferrying revellers to and from the famous "full moon" party on Koh Pha Ngan island beach.

Father Dr David Hocken from Swindon, and mother Paula flew out on Sunday.

It is understood Ms Hocken, who normally lives with her mother in Bath, is in a stable condition in hospital.

The boats collided late on Saturday, local sources report, and two passengers were said to be missing after the incident.

Dr Hocken told the BBC: "When the crash happened, she was on the top deck of the boat.

"The sea was very rough. Suddenly someone screamed 'They're going to hit us'."
