Two-year-old boy rescued from Hull house fire

A toddler has been rescued from his cot in a house fire in north Hull.

Neighbours alerted the emergency services to the fire at the house on Ilthorpe, in Orchard Park, at 0240 BST on Monday.

Humberside fire service said a man and the two-year-old boy were rescued from the first floor of the building.

Both were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary and treated for the effects of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Officers are also investigating the cause of a fire in Goole on Saturday, in which a couple and their five children were rescued.

Two passers-by helped the family escape from the house in Carlisle Street before firefighters arrived at about 0700 BST.

The family were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Keith Evans, group manager at the fire service, said: "If it was not for the fire survival guidance they were given on the phone whilst still trapped in the building and the quick reactions of the two members of the public, the outcome of this incident could have been a lot worse."
