Crackdown on rogue traders in West Berkshire

A crackdown on rogue traders who target elderly and vulnerable people in West Berkshire is to get under way.

From Monday, police and trading standards officers will patrol the borough challenging traders, the council said.

The most common complaints include shoddy roofing work, driveways and wall insulation and overcharging.

Traders often use psychological tactics like trying to make friends with their victims before offering services.

Hilary Cole, West Berkshire's executive councillor for public protection, said: "We cannot allow rogue traders to target the elderly and most vulnerable in our communities."
