A body recovered from a Cumbrian lake was that of a missing canoeist, police have confirmed.

Chad Salisbury, 18, from Leyland in Lancashire, failed to surface after overturning on Ullswater on Saturday afternoon.

His disappearance, about 656ft (200m) from the shore, led to a major search operation, which continued late into the night.

A police underwater search team recovered his body in the early hours.

Coastguards, the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and members of the public were also involved in the early part of the search.
