Disused Northampton school damaged by fire

A fire has severely damaged a disused school in Northampton.

Sixty firefighters aboard 10 fire engines were called to the school in Bective Road in the Kingsthorpe area on Saturday afternoon.

Fire officers said an explosion heard throughout the area was probably caused by a gas cylinder.

They said the school building had been extensively damaged but there were no reports of casualties and the cause was under investigation.
